Guess what? I’m an aunt again and Noor is a big sister! Two nights ago my sister gave birth to a healthy and squidgy baby boy who they’ve called Omar. We’ve been reeling in delight at the new arrival although mama has been harassing me about when I’m going to get married and provide her with grandchildren. ‘You’re 26 Amaal, you’re getting old, so old.’ Baba tells her to leave me alone ‘She went to Oxford! You want her to marry anybody! No no no!’ Have I mentioned that I love my father? He doesn’t realise that I’m not planning to get married for at least a decade
In other news: I received an e-mail from intercollegiate housing and they’ve got a vacancy in one of the halls in Cartwright Gardens. I applied for my masters at SOAS when I was working with the UN in Malawi, and so they assumed I was an overseas student and needed accommodation. But they hadn’t got back to me since then until now which is timely since I wanted to move out for this year and had the incident with the leaking ceiling in my last place. I phoned them up and everything should be done and dusted by Tuesday when I’ll be moving in! So I’ll be a central Londoner after all!
