Tonight is my first night at my new place. Its small, its dingy cosy but its mine…all mine. No sharing (learnt my lesson during my undergrad years at Oxford). It’s right by Russell Square, perfect for not having to get up too early for morning lectures. It’s literally 5 minutes away from SOAS. I did a test run this afternoon. I had a shower, got dressed and headed out. Strolled through Russell Square and then went into the Brunei Gallery to look at the exhibition they’ve got there. Pretty cool stuff. I’m so excited about starting SOAS its unbelievable! I can’t wait, its actually pathetic! I can’t wait until I’m buried under books and devouring information from some of the worlds experts on Asia, Africa and the Middle East!
I went to an Open Evening last year. The lecturer that was at the stall took his time to speak to me and answer my questions. I started up a conversation with a girl who was looking into the same course that I was planning on doing. I spoke to several Student Ambassadors who were extremely friendly and I knew that this was where I wanted to do my MSc. I had thought of continuing my education at Oxford but that day I returned home reeling with excitment. I go by my gut feeling (on literally everything) and my gut was content and happy full of the cheese and crackers that they had there, and well, when my guts happy, I’m happy
Mama phoned me today to see how I was settling in. I said it felt good. I’ve put up photos of my family and of my time with Nina in Liberia. I’ve got a row of books stacked on the raidiator cover that I’m using as a book shelf. I even changed the light bulb to an enegery saving one - the rent includes the electricity bill but I do my little bit to save the world. I’m looking around and I like what I see. I still need to put up my posters but its already feeling like home
